- <p> When they married 17 years ago, both were aspiring singers.
- Now mezzo-soprano FREDERICA VON STADE is an opera and recording
- star, and Peter Elkus, as of last week, is her ex-husband. In
- the divorce proceeding, Elkus' lawyer contended that since Elkus
- sacrificed his career goals to help his wife as voice coach and
- in other ways, he was entitled to a share of Von Stade's
- "enhanced" celebrity value. "A God-given talent," countered her
- counsel, isn't marital property. The judge, sounding the final
- note, rejected Elkus' claim.
